Set in the world of Eora, Pillars of Eternity tasks players with unveiling the cause behind the Hollowborn plague. An old-school RPG, the game features a deep and engrossing story in a land full of history. From the outset, the characters you meet are interesting and everyone you meet has a story to tell or a quest to give. The world of Eora is gorgeous and accompanied by a wonderful musical score that fully conveys the drama in each situation.
Pillars of Eternity marks the return of large scale isometric RPGs with real-time-pausable combat and proves that they are just as much fun as they ever were. In a year without The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4, Pillars of Eternity would almost certainly have taken the top spot. As it is, we think the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate will happily settle for Best New IP of 2015.
