Best Adventure Game
SOMA
Atmospheric tension. These two words describe SOMA perfectly. From the same developers that brought us Penumbra and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, we could have reasonably expected something along the lines of either of those games, or the jump-scare laden experience of the latter at the very least. SOMA turned out to be neither.
With a morality questioning narrative, players were brought into the murky depths of a desolate aquatic research facility. While there were a few scares here and there, we spent most of our time exploring in eerie silence, seeing remnants of the lives of those who once lived there. The combination made for an impactful experience that has helped SOMA carve a spot for itself among this years' must play titles.
