Multiplayer (cntd)

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is introducing two new game modes in adversarial multiplayer: Demolition and Team Leader. Demolition is played with two teams, one tries to plant the bomb while the other tries to stop them. The game type is played out in a similar fashion to Counter-Strike or Socom. The team with the bomb has two possible spots to plant it and once planted, it must be protected.

Team Leader is a team based game mode that relies heavily on communication and team work. Each of the two teams has a VIP player who is the Team Leader. This Team Leader is the one that controls the respawns in the sense that as long as your Team Leader is alive your team can respawn. He is also the only person that can see the enemy’s leader on the map and the only one who can eliminate enemies from the match by killing them.

There are some subtle changes to the existing game mechanics as well. Total conquest was a really fun game mode that was introduced in the “Players Pack” Red Edition. Now the players must capture all three satellites and hold them for 30 seconds. This forces the players to go into the enemy’s territory and really makes them work for the satellites, resulting in a more fast pace game mode that is sure to please old and new Vegas fans alike.

The cover system has seen a few changes as well; in the original Vegas cover was impenetrable. If an enemy would take cover your only option was a grenade or flank. Now Ubisoft has introduced penetrable cover, so you really have to think before taking position. If a player takes cover behind a piece of ply wood for example, it really leaves him exposed to be shot through. A safer bet might be hiding behind a metal grate but that will not necessarily give you the best vantage point to shoot from. It’s a balancing act.

The arsenal is also seeing an upgrade; Vegas 2 is introducing eleven new weapons to online multiplayer. Some of these new weapons for example are the SR-25 SD; it is a quiet, light sniper rifle that has a really nice suppressor and scope on it. The online community has been asking for the M4 for some time now and now players will be able to wield the M468.

Co-op

Co-op seems to be the new hula-hoop ever since Epic Games did such a great job of it in Gears of War. In Rainbow Six Vegas 2 the player will have a seamless Co-op experience as you can complete the single player story with the help of a friend. There is a new “jump-in jump-out” system that allows your friend to join in on your single player story regardless of where they are in the campaign.
