Away From Keyboard - Lorcana: Attack of the Vine
Narratively, Attack of the Vine! brings the lingering flood-ink storyline to a boiling point. The mysterious growth that first sprouted in Whispers in the Well has mutated into a full-scale invasion, spawning eerie plant duplicates known as "Vinelings."
To capture this chaos, Ravensburger embraced a 1950s creature-feature art style dubbed Cinemayhem. Complete with pulp-comic lettering, dramatic poster-style framing, and lurid monster-movie lighting, it stands as one of the most visually striking and distinct aesthetic directions in Lorcana’s history.
Monstropolis, Red Pandas, and Paradise Falls
Building on the Pixar foundation laid in Wilds Unknown, Series 13 introduces three heavy-hitting franchises into the mix:
Monsters, Inc.: Sulley, Mike Wazowski, and Boo lead the charge. Fittingly for a monster-themed set, their mechanics revolve around leveraging scares and high-willpower plays.

Turning Red: Mei Lee and her family arrive alongside the brand-new Red Panda classification, bringing explosive transformation abilities that turn modest glimmers into colossal threats.

Up: Carl Fredricksen, Russell, and Dug join the fray, offering whimsical resource-engine plays and adventure synergies.

Mechanically Minded: The Shift Evolution
Attack of the Vine! dramatically redefines one of Lorcana's core mechanics by introducing several innovative variants to the Shift keyword:
● Duo Shift: Allows a dual-named character (like Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse – Adventuring Duo) to shift onto either or both of the named individual characters.
● Temporary Shift: Allows a glimmer to shift onto the board for a single explosive turn before bouncing back to your hand with all damage removed.
● Potato Shift: A delightful, quirky mechanic that lets characters like Posey – Vampire Potato shift directly onto an item card with "Potato" in its name.
Alongside these new Shift types comes the Vineling classification, representing the corrupted plant duplicates designed to disrupt your opponent's resource curve.
Expanding the Rarity Ceiling
For collectors, Attack of the Vine! breaks Lorcana's traditional 204-card set size, bringing the main set total up to 207 cards. Above the base set sits an array of high-value chase cards:
● 18 Epic Cards: Borderless framing with a distinct textured holographic treatment.
● 18 Full-Art Enchanted Variants: Gorgeous alternate-art cards spanning the marquee Disney and Pixar cast.
● 2 Iconic Cards: The ultra-rare crown jewels of the set, featuring specialized 3D hot-stamp foil effects and unique alternate artwork—with Sulley & Boo – Scare Buddies serving as the ultimate pull.

Final Thoughts
Duo Shift is an absolute game-changer in practice. The flexibility of being able to play a single base card—whether a standalone Mickey or Minnie - and then shift into a dual-character powerhouse gives your deck incredible consistency. It eliminates the "dead draw" feeling when you hold a Shift card without its exact matching base target.
The Monsters, Inc. archetype acts as a hard check to the super-aggro decks that dominated Wilds Unknown. By punishing opponents who over-extend without protecting their board state, Sulley and Mike force players to think twice before committing all their ink to mindless lore rushing.

Attack of the Vine! is a wildly energetic release that balances campy B-movie charm with serious mechanical innovation. By expanding the Pixar umbrella while pushing character interactions into uncharted territory with Duo Shift and Vinelings, Series 13 ensures the meta remains as unpredictable as the invading vines themselves. The "Cinemayhem" theme isn't just a gimmick; it breathes fresh life into the game's tone. The interplay between the Turning Red transformations and the new Shift mechanics creates some of the most dynamic turns Lorcana has seen to date.
