Top 9 Games We Could Do Without This Year

Feature

Be it to give a series a breather, a developer more time, or for just our own selfish reasons; there are games every year we could do without.

The Amazing Spider-Man

While there were certainly issues with developer Beenox’s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the game was fun for what it was. However, last year Beenox was pushed to get out its sequel in just under a year and the resulting, Spider-Man: Edge of Time was a tragedy for Spider-Man fans. Now Beenox is being pushed to get The Amazing Spider-Man out the door in even less time and tie it to the release of the movie as well. We, as fans of Spider-Man, are tired of the mediocre shovelware that is consistently pushed out onto us and we deserve better.

Resident Evil 6

With so many companies pushing out sequels in quick succession that face that Capcom loves to take their time with delivering proper Resident Evil sequels is something that we should all be thankful for. So why then is Resident Evil 6 on this list? Well, Resident Evil 6 may be long overdue but Capcom has decided to push it out in a year when they have two Resident Evil spin-offs releasing as well. While neither Resident Evil: Revelations or Operation Raccoon City have the potential to be the sequel to Resident Evil 5 that everyone has been looking for, it still puts three Resident Evil games on the market within 12 months of each other. One of the games has to suffer and I for one would rather wait until early next year to get my hands on a proper Resident Evil than get hit with it during crunch time and be burned out on the franchise.

Silent Hill (pick one)

Similar to Resident Evil, Konami has decided to unleash a trio of Silent Hill games on fans. But unlike Capcom, Konami has decided to unleash them all within a month of each other. One of those three games is actually two games in one package, the Silent Hill HD Collection, another is a Vita game, Book of Memories, and the last is an actual Silent Hill sequel, Downpour. That is a lot of Silent Hill in just one month. March is already overloaded with quality titles, the Silent Hill games are only going to cannibalize each other and these games deserve the right to breathe.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm

What is this craziness? Yes, we all want Heart of the Swarm but I want Diablo III more. Sure the two games are mutually exclusive and do not really impact the release of the other but if Heart of the Swarm comes out late this year it will cut into my Diablo III time. Not to mention that the World of Warcraft expansion, Mist of Pandera, is set to release this year as well. Give us a full year to play Diablo III, then unleash the Swarm on us. Please.

Halo 4

Halo 4 is another selection that is sure to have fans yelling at their screen, but think about it - Halo: Reach is still going strong and with rumors of the next Xbox are swirling for a 2013 release. It makes more sense for Halo 4 to launch alongside the new system than it does for them to release it as the swan song. What does Microsoft have to launch its new console next year? Fable? People seem burned out on it. Gears? Epic is currently focusing on new stuff. While I would love Microsoft to take a risk and give fans a new IP, I also want something I know I want to play when the system comes out, Halo 4 makes the most sense.
