Take down an illegal racing syndicate

Razor Callahan

Story progression in Need for Speed has always been a point of contempt until the recent Full Motion Video (FMV) started popping up in the latest titles. The over the top performance by C level actors was welcomed with open arms by critics and fans alike. Black Box hopes to capitalize on this by bringing back the FMV into this title for the fans, much like the Command & Conquer series. Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard) and Christina Milian (actress/singer) are among the many that will help guide along the games story.

This is not just another cookie cutter yearly entry into the Need for Speed series. A slew of new game modes are offered to help diversify this installment. Highway Battle, Sprint, Police Chase, Cops and Robbers, Cost to State and Driver Job are the modes currently announced.

Highway Battle pits you against one other opponent in the traffic ridden highways of Tri-city. Try to get as far away as possible from your opponent while avoiding the cops and civilian vehicles to win. Sprint is a basic point-to-point race system; first one to the finish line wins. Police Chase forces you to get away from the cop cars and helicopters in one piece and get your ride back to the shop before time runs out. Cops and Robbers is a co-operative mode that supports two teams of four players. The Robbers have a package that has to be taken from point A to B and the Cops must stop them using any means necessary. Cost to State is a road rage filled, destroy everything game type. Hit barriers, cars, environmental hazards and whatever else is on the road to rack up the damage costs to the state and win. Driver Job is a specific mission based mode where you will encounter anything from delivering cars or packages in one piece to escorting clients to specific locations. All modes are planned to be supported online as well.

The Need for Speed

The Need for Speed series seems to be going back to what they do best: high speed police chases and cheesy FMV cut-scenes. A ton of new modes and a refreshing new setting topped off with another great Need for Speed storyline make this title one of the most anticipated Need for Speed games in years. If the developers can capture what made all the classics like Hot Pursuit and High Stakes so special, this one is sure to find its way to the top of the pile this holiday season.
