Dagger Games' first foray into RPS

Looting: The Tradition (cntd)

Speaking of items, they come in several types - including magic items, common items, set items, and unique items. While common items will consist of various power-ups to your leader’s battle statistics - attack power, defence, and so on - magic items will have the potential to alter the more interesting facets of your character - such as hit points, mana or movement speed. Unique items will have a similar effect, while rare items will consist of the strongest and rarest items in the game. Every race will have a unique set of Ancient Items, for both mage and warrior types. This set will, presumably, make up the strongest weapons and army in the game.

Sounds great – but where’s the plot?

So far, the game is reported to include two single player campaigns, a challenge mode, and a multiplayer mode, which can, reputedly, support up to four characters, although this may change. Little is known, so far, about the storyline of the single player campaigns, and it seems that this will not be one of the major strengths of the game (although there is an intriguing hint in some of the cut-scenes). On the other hand, Dagger's silence on the matter could indicate an intriguing and enigmatic plot - we can only hope.

In multiplayer mode, you will be able to battle against the armies of your friends and other opponents. The strengths of your leader will, reportedly, be carried over through the different elements of the game.

We Will Fight them on the Beaches

Dagger games promise realistic graphics, and to some extent they seem to have delivered. Wind whispers through the trees, water ripples over reflections, and snow falls. The graphics are impressive, but not always fantastically breathtaking, and occasionally, they do have the same blockiness that many PC games share. The environments vary, from jungles to foreboding castles to snowfields, and it seems that many of the character and costumes are heavily influenced by medieval fashions - resulting in environments which, at first glance, are reminiscent of a cross between World of Warcraft and Might & Magic, or the early Final Fantasy games.

In Summary

Dimensity seems to show some promise for Dagger's first venture into the gaming world, but I believe the strength of the game will rest on just how involving the battle system is. With no revealed plot, as yet, fighting strategic campaigns will be a major part of the game's appeal.
