Sony PSP

The "ooh's" and "aah's" that were uttered when the PSP was launched would have had you believe that Sony had solid gold in their hands. For a moment, Nintendo may have had some concerns about the life expectancy of their 'dual screen gameboy'. That moment didn't last very long. The PSP is an impressive little device but, like it's big brother PS3, sales are slow and games are far from plentiful. It is hard to call it a successful year for the shiny black machine, but there were some highlights to be found as well.

Dead Head Fred

Fred is dead. Well, sort of. He lost his head but a mad scientist put him back together. There were some complications during the operation though: his brain and body could be saved, his skull and face however, were not. Dead Head Fred is a very creative yet particularly odd game, making it one of the most interesting games to come out this year.

Silent Hill Origins

You are Travis Grady, a simple trucker who has been suffering from haunting nightmares of which he is no longer sure whether they are fact or fiction. He will quickly learn that it is most definitely not the latter. Silent Hill Origins is one of the creepiest and most atmospheric games on the PSP. The excellent soundtrack, smooth gameplay and eerie graphics offer an experience we seldom see on handhelds. Fans of the survival horror genre will be thrilled (in more ways than one) with this game.

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

In previous years, Konami's classic Castlevania series has proven it works well on handhelds. The Dracula X Chronicles is no different. If you are looking for a challenge, than this game is for you. It is one of the most difficult games on the PSP but if you are persistent, it is also one of the most rewarding. The Dracula X Chronicles is a great game that will excite and entertain you into the wee hours of the night.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters

Ratchet & Clank have been a popular duo on Sony’s Playstation for years. It was only a matter of time to see their faces appear on the PSP. We are happy to say that they ‘ported over’ well, showing that size really doesn’t matter if you want to have fun. Its story, level design and controls are exemplary. Playing the game, you will quickly forget that you are playing on a smaller screen as the game will suck you in and won’t let go until it serves the end credits.

Sid Meier's Pirates!

As the sun sets on a bold and daring career on the high seas, the player retires to a satisfying playing experience. Sid Meier's Pirates! is a masterful port of its PC original. In fact, its fast, arcade-like gameplay is a perfect fit for playing on the move. Its accessibility, extraordinary replay value, addictive multiplayer mode and endless fun make it the top offering for Sony's handheld.
