There was so much potential in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Co-developed by Big Huge Games and 38 studios, this action RPG was supposed to redefine the genre. It did indeed feature interesting new gameplay mechanics, accompanied by great visuals and sound design, but the overall package just felt generic. The customisable combat system was fun for a while, but soon grew into a pattern. The quests and storylines were uninspired and just too similar to standard RPG tales. Both developers that worked on the game have since folded and it remains to be seen of Kingdoms of Amalur will get a chance to redeem itself.

This isn’t the only disappointing game this year to bear the Resident Evil name, but this game where you play as an Umbrella Security Services soldier was the most disappointing. It is a forgettable shooter, riddled with bugs and glitches. It lacks an exciting storyline, the gameplay has no imagination, and it seems like even your AI partner doesn’t want to play with you at times. Operation Raccoon City just adds to the pile of games for this stagnating franchise, and unless something drastic happens soon, people are going to stop playing them altogether.
