Turok

Prehistoric beauty
The whole campaign is pretty linear in the sense that there are rarely any misleading paths and your Whiskey team will often lead you to the next area. While having the knowledge of where to go, your teammates don’t seem to have the knowledge of effective combat and this also goes for the enemy AI. Soldiers will often not even realize when you are shooting arrows at their buddies and don’t even get alarmed when they see a dead body pinned to a wall. The dinosaurs and other creatures aren’t too smart either. They will repeat the same movements a lot, only leaving you to simply shoot at them for a quick death. Even with these occurrences, the campaign is surely one great experience.
If there’s one thing about Turok that really grabs your attention, it’s the environmental visuals. Whether you are trying to find your way out of a cave or trekking through the thick jungle, everything looks great. The best visual pleasers in the game are the realistic looking dinosaurs. The various beasts will run through the wildlife to get the pounce on you and, to be honest, I literally jumped the first time a raptor threw me off my feet to start chewing on my head. I barely escaped with my life that time. The way these beasts have that effect on you is truly one of the most heart-pounding parts of the game and is sure to get your blood pumping. This isn’t to say that everything about the visuals hits the mark. Many of the textures on the environments look as if they got added in the last second.
Orchestral tracks have been placed into the campaign and will trigger at the opportune time to really immerse you into this world. The soldiers and guards will yell out various commands at each other. Creatures will cry and roar loudly and are sure to attract your attention.
Killing dinos with friends
Aside from the single-player campaign, Turok offers a separate multiplayer mode to let you duke it out online against other players. All the standard modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag are available in online play. An added twist is the fact that dinosaurs are running around the maps and randomly search out someone to feast on. You are going to have to watch your back, if you don’t, they will be nibbling on you. A co-op mode is also available so you can go through the campaign with a buddy or try out three maps built exclusively for co-op play. None of the above is groundbreaking but the multiplayer modes are definitely worth a try.
Fun!
Turok has made a stunning comeback into the next generation with its immersive campaign, all backed by an interesting story. While adding new elements into the gameplay, the creators created an enjoyable game that leaves you to run and gun or take the stealthy approach. The variety and added multiplayer options make this a worthwhile game to add to your FPS library. Even with some of the technical drawbacks such as the lackluster AI, Turok is worth your time and attention.
