Darksiders

Super steed
Being that War is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse it wouldn’t be right if he were made to slog his way across this desolate world on foot. During an early sequence in the game War has the opportunity to be reunited with his trusty steed Ruin. Ruin comes complete with his own set of superpowers which can also be improved upon with experience. The one power that Ruin has that impressed me the most is his ability to materialize out of the ground when needed.
Characters
After reading the above paragraphs you may be thinking that War is the only character that is present in Darksiders. There are of course three other Horsemen of the Apocalypse and they are named Strife, Fury and Death. Unfortunately Strife and Fury are only mentioned in the game and their whereabouts are unknown. I’m hoping that they will be present in future sequels. Death, the last member of the Horsemen makes a cameo appearance where he wields a scythe sword and wears an evil looking black robe over his skeletal body. His location however is also described as being unknown. Other characters that make an appearance are a fellow named The Watcher. His job is to guide War throughout his adventure by directing him to the various tasks that must be accomplished in order to progress and complete the game.
As War wanders this beautiful graphically rendered landscape of a ravished Earth that is reminiscent of the dark but detailed wastelands in Fallout 3 he will encounter many varieties of enemies that need killing. Remember there are no humans left on Earth and the ones that may resemble human beings are simply mutated demon spawn straight from Hell. Throw in some nasty looking gangly skeletons and various other grotesque things straight from your worst nightmare and you have the makings of a barrel of fun!
A worthy wait
Folks, I can’t say enough about this new game from THQ except to mention that I expect it to be a big hit for fans of the shooting genre of console gaming. The developers have left plenty of room for expansion of this theme for possible sequel titles to follow in the future. Darksiders is scheduled to be released during the first quarter of 2010. Yes, I know that is a rather long time to have to wait in order to start your own onslaught against the minions of the Devil but I can assure you the wait will be worth it. I already have my Play Station 3 primed and ready for the onslaught of the God of War as he seeks vengeance on those that have wronged him!
