Weapons, modes and ranks
The number of weapons you have access to in the game is quite amazing. You’ll never fall too low on ammo, with the amount of guns you can find, with such favourites including the M4, M16, M249 SAW, the G3 and the AK-47. Some weapons are placed there for a reason though, such as stinger missiles and a sniper rifle to suit a situation not too far ahead. With the ability to be able to have two different guns at the same time, you have the ability to quickly switch between them, especially if you run out of ammo. There are certain in-game actions available as well, such as calling in air support from a friendly helicopter to clear a marked area. As well as air support, claymores and C4 are available. Each has their own uses, such as defending yourself from being flanked by the enemy, as well as laying C4 on tanks to take them down.
The multiplayer aspects of the game work similarly to the single player campaign, with a few slight differences. The main functions remain the same, except action is much thicker and faster, along with having some bonus features.
With the vast range of game modes on offer, there really is something for everyone, with very little room for complaint at all about the multiplayer experience. A class system with five preset classes with default weapon load-outs and perks assigned to them are available when you first start. The system also allows you to make up to 5 user created classes where the user can customize their weapon load-out and the three perks of their soldier. The five default classes include Assault, Special Ops, Light Machine Gunner, Demolitions, and Sniper. Only two of the default classes are available to a first time player; the rest are unlocked once the player gains more experience online and obtains a higher rank. Once you hit level 4, the option for creating custom classes becomes available, as well as naming them for quick selecting in multiplayer matches.
Perks
Experience Points (EXP) are earned by either killing opponents or completing certain objectives, such as defusing a bomb in the Sabotage game mode, or capturing a flag in the Domination mode. However, the amount of EXP gained varies depending on the type of match the user is playing. When the user gains enough Experience Points their rank/level increases. The highest attainable level is 55, which unlocks the Prestige mode (only available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions). In the Prestige mode, the player can trade in their rank and start over at level 1, in exchange for a special in-game insignia by their name. The player can trade in their rank and start over at level 1 up to ten times, with the prestige insignia changing every time, effectively giving the player 605 ranks to achieve in total.
Most of the new weapons and perks that players can use to outfit their custom class are unlocked as they gain higher ranks, but there are also a separate number of challenges associated with each weapon that subsequently open up new add-on gear as players complete them. These special add-ons and unlocks are camouflage and different attachments for your weapons, which can be achieved by completing the objectives, like hitting a certain number of headshots. Completing these challenges also gives the player EXP.
Soundscape
Every game has sounds. Some have made such a horrible job of their soundtrack, that it’s nice to see a game pulling it off exceptionally well. The atmosphere that is created is nothing short of epic and, at times, chaotic. Despite the amount of sound effects as well as voice acting the game has to run at once, there never seems to be a time when they clash. Everything is layered at the right time, making an easy transition from one to the next. Considering all the guns blazing, grenades exploding in the background, communication between your unit, as well as enemy communication, the game still manages to run smoothly. The lack of stutter makes the game feel so much more realistic, and creates an atmosphere that you can forget yourself into.
