World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Bringing Canada to your computers
The main edition in Wrath of the Lich King will be the new continent Northrend, which is a icy, forested and mountainous land similar to the great nation of Canada (though it appears the inhabitants are not as nice). Even though the new landmass is way up north, we are told by the developers that not all regions’ players encounter will be icy and snow. Some in fact shall be quite tropical as has been seen in the Sholazar Basin region. The overall geography of the new areas encompasses a terrain that is similar in size to the Outland zones and it should be noted that flying mounts will be available but not at first. You have to level up a bit before you can get back on your trusty steeds.
Speaking of mounts, players will now also have the ability to obtain mounts that can carry more than one person. An interesting development to say the least, especially with lower levels, being able to get a ride from some kind friends with a mount. One thing that is for sure, Northrend will not be short on new available instances and raid dungeons.
‘Instantly’ Enjoyable
Anyone who has played World of Warcraft knows that to get the best loot for your level, you need to get a group together and head into an instance. Instances provide unique challenges and usually very rewarding prizes for those talented enough to defeat them. Wrath of the Lich King provides us with many different instances in most zones that the player comes across and the standard 5 man groups will be the norm once again. It is when players bring themselves up to raiding that it becomes interesting. In the past, raid dungeons were the most challenging thing a player could do in the game. Part of the challenge was the fact that many required 25 people and some up to 40 people to defeat.
A new feature in Wrath of the Lich King allows you to play the new raid dungeons as either a 25 player fight or a 10 player fight. Loot will vary depending on which way you go, but it will now allow more causal guilds to be able to tackle and see all of the end game content.
The Road Goes Ever On and On…
There really is nearly too much to list in this preview to give a good overview of exactly all the new content that Wrath shall bring: Battlegrounds, destructible environments in some parts of the new game, countless new quests and new fractions to join and gain reputation with. Over the past few years World of Warcraft has changed from being merely a game to – for some people – a part of day and life. There seems to be no stopping it from continuing on… but for now, Arthas waits for us just a little longer.
