Get ready for the Insecticide Division

Back in the day

Insecticide is what I would like to call a throwback kind of adventure game that many of us were accustomed to playing back during the glory days of PC gaming. I remember those days fondly. There I was sitting in front of my old DOS based PC with a big VGA tube monitor staring me in the face while I happily controlled a blocky pixilated representation of a character.

I would sit there for hours clicking all over the screen trying to find some clues so that I could progress and further the plot of the game. Back in those days we had to have a very good imagination because the graphics simply weren’t there. During that time game developers specialized on the story line and plot mainly because graphics, sound and other high tech things that we take for granted today simply did not exist.

I remember games such as the classic point and click Lucas Arts adventure game Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and others of that ilk. Those were excellent story and plot based adventure games that could hold the player’s attention for hours or until the game sadly came to an end.

Lucas Arts veterans

You may be wondering what this new adventure game Insecticide has in common with these oldies? Well first of all the above mentioned games were Lucas Arts productions and we all know that Lucas Arts put out some pretty good games. No Lucas Arts hasn’t thrown open their doors and started releasing new adventures again. In fact a bunch of the veteran programmers and game developers that worked for Lucas Arts years ago have banded together to form a new company named Crackpot Entertainment. Yes the name sounds somewhat strange but knowing that they have a lot of experience with this genre, we can rest assured that this will be a good one.

Insecticide is slated for a Q3 release this year and a company named Gamecock Media Group is the publisher. It is going to be released via a two part digital download. Specifics on that are sketchy at this time but as we get closer to the release date we will have a better over all picture of how the download will be handled.

Action adventure

You all be anxious to learn more about the actual game itself since I have talked a lot about old adventure games and old publishers above. Insecticide was released for the DS game platform in March this year and it received some very good reviews. The DS is limited in the graphics, sound and game control departments being that it’s a hand held game device. The PC version of the game will appear with much better cinematic graphics, sounds, voice acting and vastly improved upon game controls. Controlling the main character in Insecticide can be accomplished by a combination of keyboard strokes and mouse commands. Its all-intuitive and very well laid out so game mechanics should be easy to pick up.
