Other Challenges
Aside from the Story mode (and even during the story mode), Lego Indy 2 gives the gamers the option to play some mini-games or Challenges. There are timed event challenges (my favourite is the rolling ball challenge), whack-a-mole style games and even mini-games that require collecting a certain amount of Lego studs in an allotted time. These Challenges are fun and certainly enable the gamer to take a break from the Crystal Skull storyline from time to time.
Controlling the characters and their actions is very simple. Everything can basically be done with the D-pad (to move around) and the XYAB buttons (to activate the character’s functions). The stylus can be used for certain functions, but on most occasions it is just simpler and more convenient to use the XYAB buttons.
The sights and sounds
Visually, Lego Indy 2 continues the Lego game tradition. The Lego characters largely look like their movie counterparts (in a Lego sort of way) which suits the humour used in the game. The locations are quite well done also, with Lego furnishings mixing in well with the landscapes. If you’ve seen the movie (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), then you’ll know that there are certainly enough variations in locations to keep the game interesting. The cut-scenes are a little disappointing, with comic book stylings used rather than video cut-scenes. The opening does have a video, which was nice.
If you like the Indiana Jones themes, then you’ll enjoy the audio in the game, as the musical themes are always looping in the background. This could get monotonous if you aren’t a fan though. The sound effects are fairly plain too, with the standard sounds for Indy’s whip, bashing enemies and picking up the Lego studs.
More of the same
Although Lego Indiana Jones 2 – The Adventure Continues doesn’t bring with it a host of new features, it does continue on a winning formula set by the previous Lego games. The fact that gamers (especially the Indiana Jones fans) will want to collect all the artefacts and bonus items as well as unlock all the characters means that they’ll get some decent play time out of the game. If you liked the previous Lego games, then you’ll like this. If you didn’t, then this game may not be your cup of tea.
