Teknmotion Yapster Headset

Teknmotion Yapster Headset

Feature

Good Build Quality (cntd.)

The padding on the earcups is very generous for the price category, and the (albeit faux) leather on the headband is also reasonably comfortable. The length of the headband is, as on any headphone, adjustable on both sides, although I had to extend the headband almost as far as possible to be able to properly wear the earcups. However, this may well be a nod towards the younger users, quite possibly another target group for this headset.

The microphone is attached to a metal boom on the left earcup. While the boom is not removable, it is made out of a wire tube, and as such can easily be twisted and contorted into almost any imaginable position, a feature which some much more expensive headsets lack.

All in all, the Yapster headset is extremely comfortable. We were easily able to have the unit on for literally hours, during which we rarely, if ever, experienced any sort of discomfort or pain. The design of the headset is fairly simple and straightforward (although there are multiple colour options available, these being white, pink, and black), but sufficient for a casual user with no need for showy ornaments or logos. The headset can easily be adjusted, as can the microphone boom.

The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of... Budget Headphones
Teknmotion Yapster Headset
Naturally, the low price of the Yapster headset does come at a certain cost. The unit supports (only) 2.1 sound, which is really just good old stereo. However, for such a price, you shouldn’t expect any more, and in reality, 2.1 stereo is all a casual user (even gamer) will really need. With that said, the sound quality is sufficient. Highs and mids come across reasonably clear and crisp. Sadly, deep base notes sounded lacklustre, with barely any “oomph” backing them up. While this should, to a certain degree, be expected in a budget headset, we still did expect a bit more here.

However, the microphone easily makes up for this. Audio recordings, as well as VoIP calls sounded very clear, and the mic has a decent pickup radius.

In total, the audio side of the Yapster headset is acceptable. The mic is very nice, and all but the deepest base notes coming across reasonably clear and sharp.

Overall, the Tekmotion Yapster is a very good budget headset. While the somewhat short features list might deter “hardcore” gamers, this unit may well be a perfect fit for casual users and/or teenagers looking for a cheap, easy-to-use headset with all the necessary attributes.
