Activision Blizzard Releases Q1 Financials
Activision Blizzard reported its Quarter 1 financials, showing off an estimated $1 billion in revenue from Destiny and Hearthstone, to date. Last quarter, the two earned only $450 million. The games have over 50 million subscribers combined, with players logging on for an average of three hours per day of game time. Destiny is also going to get a "major update" this fall.
The Call of Duty franchise also reported positive numbers, with Activision citing a strong sell through for Advanced Warfare and “early success of the new micro‐transaction offerings.”
World of Warcraft is lagging behind quite a bit, going down to only 7.1 million subscribers, losing over 3 million. World of Warcraft became available to play in more countries this quarter, helping to recover some of the lost sales.
Activision Blizzard’s net revenues Q1 were $1.28 billion, compared to $1.11 billion last year. Revenues from digital channels were a record $581 million and represented 45% of the company’s total revenues.
