Civilization series moves onto mobile platforms
2K Games have been testing a mobile game called Conquests and Alliances - 4X Empire Builder in soft-launch in several countries around the world for the past few months, and has now re-branded the game to feature the famous Civilization moniker, renaming the game to Civilization: Eras & Allies.
Testing and development is still in soft launch, so only a select few are able to play the game, and although we at Hooked gamers feature mainly PC titles, this is one mobile game that we are keen to test out. While 2K aren't looking to promote the game as yet, the Civilization fan base has required the 2K team to make an official statement on the game.
"As part of our continued efforts to explore and expand into new audiences, Civilization: Eras & Allies is in soft launch in limited territories. Civilization: Eras & Allies is a new standalone free-to-play mobile 4X social strategy game, featuring exciting new gameplay mechanics designed with the mobile social strategy gamer in mind." said a 2K spokesperson.
And further to that, the team at Firaxis made an official statement that confirms the continued focus of Firaxis Games on the next mainline Civilization game:
"As we announced earlier this year, Firaxis Games is in active development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise. We are working with an external partner specialising in mobile social strategy games to develop Civilization: Eras & Allies."
Personally, I'd be happy with a port of Civilization II that would run on mobile devices. Although, with the one-more-turn aspect of the game, I'd likely miss my bus stop.
