Away From Keyboard - Magic: The Gathering - Lorwyn Eclipsed
Released globally on January 23, 2026, this set marks a sophisticated return to "classic fantasy" Magic. It balances the high-synergy tribal (Kindred) gameplay of the original block with modern design sensibilities, offering a draft experience that is as strategic as it is nostalgic.
A World in Twilight
For years, Lorwyn and Shadowmoor were two sides of the same coin, swapping entirely during the Great Aurora. In Lorwyn Eclipsed, that barrier has thinned. We see iconic characters grappling with their dual identities: Ashling seeks to reconcile her flamekin and rimebound selves, while Rhys and Maralen maintain a tense peace in Glen Elendra.
Even the multiverse's most notorious trickster, Oko, has found his way home. Represented as a double-faced card (Oko, Lorwyn Liege /Oko, Shadowmoor Scion), his presence underscores the theme of deceptions and shifting natures.
Visually, the set is a triumph of "Booster Fun" storytelling:
Fable Frames: These showcase treatments utilize a classic fairy-tale storybook aesthetic, framing the inhabitants of Lorwyn in ornate, hand-drawn borders.
Reversible Shock Lands: For the first time, the "Shock Lands" (e.g., Temple Garden, Watery Grave) return with double-faced art. One side features the vibrant Lorwyn landscape, while the other shows its eerie Shadowmoor reflection.
Japan Showcase & Fracture Foils: A high-end treatment for ten specific cards in the set, featuring unique Japanese art styles that capture the elemental nature of the plane.
Serialized Bitterbloom Bearer: The "chase" card of the set, featuring breathtaking art by legendary illustrator Rebecca Guay and available in strictly limited, numbered quantities.

The Balance of Light and Shadow
Lorwyn Eclipsed introduces mechanics that lean into the plane’s history of -1/-1 counters and color-matters themes while providing fresh ways to interact with the board.
New Mechanics
Blight - A keyword action: "Put N -1/-1 counters on a creature you control." This is usually an additional cost to cast a spell or activate an ability. Represents the creeping rot of Shadowmoor. You sacrifice the strength (or life) of your own creatures to fuel more powerful, desperate effects.

Vivid - An ability word that rewards you based on the number of colors (0-5) among permanents you control. Captures the brilliance of Lorwyn's "Sun." The more diverse and colorful your board state, the more powerful your spells become.

Returning Mechanics
Kindred: Formerly known as Tribal, Kindred returns as a card type, allowing non-creature spells to have creature types like Faerie, Elf, or Treefolk.

Changeling: Shapeshifters with every creature type return to glue the various tribal archetypes together.

Double-Faced Cards (DFCs): Used extensively to show characters or lands shifting between their Lorwyn and Shadowmoor aspects.

Planeswalkers
The Lorwyn Eclipsed set brings back some notable characters in their Planeswalker forms.
Oko, Lorwyn Liege/Shadowmoor Scion (Blue, Green double sided)

Liliana, Death Wielder (Black)
Ajani, Outland Chaperone (White)
Vraska, Betrayal's Sting (Black)
