"Mounts of Mayhem" Minecraft beta update released
As part of an ongoing beta testing process, Mojang has steadily dripfed Minecraft players with a steady stream of new features and content, all later to be packaged together into the forthcoming "Mounts of Mayhem" content update.
The most recent blog post confirms the new addition of "The Camel Husk", a new undead camel which can be ridden into battle by hostile mobs. Players can find these zombified camels in desert regions, and may even ride them, assuming of course that you've already dealt with their previous riders.
As part of a new quality-of-life addition, all rideable animals may now swim across bodies of water. The developers note that:
Your mounts don’t fear the cool waters of the Overworld anymore. They’re ready to swim, albeit at a slower pace. They’re still a little cautious, they won’t be jumping or sprinting. This means no more circumventing pesky bodies of water, now you can swim straight through! Yeehaw!
This "Mounts of Mayhem" beta test also introduces "The Parched", a desert zombie variant "that favors the bow and likes to pepper players with arrows". Considering these desert archers can now chase players down with their zombie camels, this is no idle threat!
The full "Mounts of Mayhem" update is currently expected to launch in December.
