Feature

A Full-Size Customisable Powerhouse

I have to admit, if given the choice of a compact/TKL keyboard or a full sized keyboard, I would go for the full-sized keyboard on most occasions. Although the smaller keyboard will take up less valuable desk space, it lacks the numpad that I use in my daily worklife - severely reducing efficiency. The Glorious GMMK2 is somewhat of a hybrid, being a 96% sized keyboard, which has less of a footprint than other full-sized keyboards, but still featuring most of the functionality.

Built for Battle (and Everything Else)

The GMMK2 boasts a sturdy, black aluminium frame, exuding a no-nonsense aesthetic that complements any setup. It is reasonably weighted, ensuring that it won’t move around a desk during frantic gameplay. Rubberised feet on the bottom further ensure that movement is kept to a minimum. For those who like to angle their keyboards, the GMMK2 has two height options, whilst a braided 2m USB-C cable is positioned in the middle of the rear of the keyboard.

Unlike the tenkeyless Corsair K65 Plus, the GMMK2 includes a dedicated numpad, perfect for data entry and those who use spreadsheets regularly. To reduce the footprint, the GMMK2 has moved the numpad close to the main keyboard and nestled the arrow keys between the two sections. The close proximity of the arrow keys to the zero on the numpad did cause me some minor issues to begin with (the right arrow key sits below the 1 on the numpad), but I did eventually get used to it. Dedicated media controls sit on the top row and provide convenient access (via the Fn button) to volume and playback functions without interrupting your workflow. But that said, the GMMK2

Unleash Your Inner Tinkerer

The true magic of the GMMK2 lies in its hot-swappable switch sockets. Unlike traditional keyboards, you're not limited to the pre-installed switches. With a simple switch puller (included), you can experiment with various switch types, from clicky and tactile to smooth and linear, to find your perfect match. This level of customization caters to both veteran mechanical keyboard enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike. The review unit did come with the Glorious Fox linear switches which are super smooth to use. They aren't as tactile as traditional mechanical switches, but these switches provide for a quieter gaming experience, perfect for someone with a younger family (with kids sleeping nearby) or for someone who doesn’t want to annoy colleagues with incessant clicking. The keyboard also features a polling rate of 1000Hz which ensures minimal delay to keystrokes.

A Feast for the Eyes (and Fingers)

The GMMK2 comes equipped with Glorious' signature doubleshot PBT keycaps. These keycaps offer a textured, premium feel compared to standard ABS keycaps, resisting shine and wear over time. The legends are vibrant and clear, allowing for easy identification even in low-light conditions. But the GMMK2 isn't just about functionality; it's about personalization. Per-key RGB backlighting allows you to create dazzling lighting effects or set specific colours for different key zones, enhancing both aesthetics and usability. The Glorious Core software provides a user-friendly interface for customizing lighting profiles with twenty or so standard lighting options to choose from, or gamers can design their own lighting setups. I did find, however, that creating macros for in-game or productivity shortcuts was a little more complicated than other peripheral software.

Glorious Customisations

A feature of the Glorious Gaming suite of products is customisation, so we were also sent an additional set of GPBT Celestial Fire keycaps so that we could test how easy it was to hot-swap them. Unlike the standard keycaps that came with the GMMK2, the Celestial Fire keycaps do not feature transparent legends, and as such are not ideal for use in a darkened location. But they were super easy to switch out, and I ended up simply highlighting the WASD and arrow keys with the Celestial Fire keycaps, but gamers can customise however they so desire.

Verdict

The Glorious GMMK2 Full-Size caters to the discerning user who demands both power and customization. Although the standard black edition isn't overly stylish, the customisations are endless. The hot-swappable switches allow for unparalleled personalisation, while the full-size layout offers dedicated number pad and media controls for maximum utility. The premium build quality and vibrant RGB lighting solidify the GMMK2 as a compelling option for gamers, content creators, and anyone who desires a keyboard that reflects their individuality. And with the range of Glorious keycaps such as the Celestial Fire set, gamers can further personalise their setup.
