Creative Fatal1ty Headset

Creative has been one of the biggest audio equipment producer for as long as computers and gaming has existed (at least with sounds) and Sound Blaster is a name recognised by every PC gamer out there. Alongside the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro sound card that we reviewed recently, we also got our hands on an interesting headset aimed for gamers: Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset. In this article, we give it a closer look and tell you about our findings.
Design and Features
Like pretty much all gaming gear out there, the Creative Fatal1ty headset is also mainly black. There are small red patches on the earpieces showing the Fatal1ty logos, but luckily there are no gaudy flashing lights to be seen.
The earpiece design is circumaural, which is pretty much how you want them to be in serious gaming use, and they muffle any outside sounds pretty well (not too well, though, so you are still likely to hear your wife / female companion calling for you). The set is cushioned (head and ears) with plush velvet and fabric padding which is very comfortable. Unlike with some other headsets, these did not press painfully against the top of the head or ears and we were quite able to use them for several hours at a time without readjusting them. This is also true for wearing glasses – many headsets prove painful to wear with glasses on, but the plush padding in Fatal1ty earpieces really made them pleasant to wear. This comfort is also explained by the light weight of the headset – at only 200 grams, they are some of the lightest circumaural headsets that we've seen.
The build quality of the headset seems very good – there's no creaking or any other stress-related sounds when you flex them to put them in place and it doesn't seem likely that they will break in normal use too easily. The microphone is detachable, which is a great bonus, since you don't always want to have the microphone around as it can get in the way when you want to watch a movie or listen to music – or just play games that don't require you to speak with anyone. Unfortunately, the above-praised velvet cushions also act as veritable dust magnets and you'll be painfully aware of the cleanliness of your room.
