Humorous, Hectic Havoc

The World Is Your Oyster

Open world games offer a lot of freedom towards players - exploring at their own pace, prioritizing what they want to, and sometimes just enjoying the vibes of the world - thanks to atmosphere like music or graphics. That being said, oftentimes these open world games will have at least one long term goal for players to work towards. In the case of Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip, this goal is to drive into space. Simple, right?

Players of Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip take the role of the titular Terry, a resident of an absurd small town which has a very loose definition of crime, encouraging players to be a littleā€¦careless in their adventures. Once Terry has acquired his car at the start of the game, the world opens up and Terry is able to explore the town to his heart's content. To accomplish his goal of driving to space, he needs to collect Turbo Junk scattered around town to give his car a boost, but getting that Turbo Junk is where the game opens up, since there are a lot of places it can be found just existing in the world, but the best way will be accomplishing side quests.

Quirky Characters

The side quests in Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip are certainly varied in content, even if the majority of rewards are similar. From yoga practice to helping a beachfront restaurant develop a new item, Terry's meandering through town in search of Turbo Junk to upgrade his vehicle is sure to be good for a laugh, thanks to the eccentric humour this game sports. Character designs are simple, but names are not, since most of the characters and street names in this world may very well be born from random typing on a keyboard in order to come up with them. This particularly contrasts the simple name of Terry, just adding to the surreal humour of the game since everything in this town is taken at just about face value - from a massive 'Sky Tower' that Terry decides is a perfect way to drive into space since the Mayor made sure to pave a road up its side, to government debt being easily solved by just adding more zeroes. The simple shapes and humour can be sure to get a laugh out of players, from the outright oddity of it all if nothing else.

This includes violating traffic laws, since apparently this town outright has a different perspective on illegality than other places - proven via the lack of any form of consequence for your actions, no matter how wacky. Some gamers may prefer a game with more solid stakes like a health bar or a 'crime' system where you're pursued by law enforcement, but Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip makes for a bit more of a relaxing sandbox without those add-ons.

A Bit Out There

That being said, oddities within Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip may be a bit much for some players. With a simple art style and peculiar form of humour, this isn't a game for everyone, but those that enjoy this sort of thing are sure to get a kick out of Terry's misadventures. The game is also relatively short - particularly if players aren't planning on going for 100% completion - and the game will actually inform you when Terry is able to drive up the Sky Tower- though this player found that you could in fact make the trip a bit earlier than the game anticipates. The game only takes around three hours to complete, but completing to 100% could easily add a lot more to that time thanks to the fact that the game has more than enough items than you need in order to complete it.

In all, Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip is a short but enjoyable sandbox with a decent amount to do. The art design and humor may not be for everyone, but this reviewer can happily say that it makes for a very fun experience!
