Welcome to the Shimmering Skies
Up until now Australia has been delayed in the release of the Lorcana series. The first four sets (The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands and, Ursula's Return) were released well after they were released in the USA. This has changed though with the worldwide release of the fifth set in the series, Shimmering Skies (effectively giving access to Aussies before the rest of the world).
We at Hooked Gamers were lucky enough to be invited to the pre-release event in Melbourne. The event enabled us to check out the gorgeous Disney themed cards and play a few games with other Lorcana enthusiasts.
Set Mechanics
Although it is the fifth set in the Lorcana series, The Shimmering Skies set is a great one for newcomers to begin their Lorcana experience. There are no new mechanics or keywords in the set, although the Rush keyword seems to be more prevalent - which makes sense given the set includes characters from Sugar Rush (one of the games within the Wreck-It Ralph movie).

The cards
The Shimmering Skies features cards from a whole range of Disney movies, with many of the cards coming from The Sword in the Stone, The Lion King, Robin Hood and Frozen. But as mentioned, a large complement of cards feature the characters from Wreck-It Ralph.
Enchanted cards are always a feature of the Lorcana sets which makes sense given that they're also the rarest of the Lorcana cards. These beautiful cards feature alternate, borderless artwork with a special foil process which have a wonderful shimmering rainbow look. The Shimmering Skies set fits in beautifully with the Enchanted cards. As with previous sets, the Shimmering Skies cards are delightful.
