Mass Effect 3 PC Will Require Origin

Electronic Arts is pushing its digital distribution service, Origin. Both physical and digital copies of Mass Effect 3 will need the program installed to play.

Christ Priestly, BioWare's Community Coordinator, confirms the development in a thread which also addresses common questions. On top of that, Priestly confirms Steam will not see the release:
Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.

Origin may have a bad rep with spyware but Mass Effect 3 will feature an in-game opt-out to disable data collection.

If there's still any doubt, Priestly is accepting any challenges:
"Please provide an example of these reports, other than just rumor and hearsay, and I will investigate them with our Origin team. They may just be rumors, but I will investigate if you have a valid source."

Mass Effect 3 will be out March 6 for North America while Europe has to wait until March 9.
