Battlefield 3 First Details Emerge
Along with the teaser trailer, are a bunch of exciting new details for the next installment in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 3. Amongst the rush of information seems to be a few promising details that will make the game much better catered for the PC.
Battlefield 3 will have the typical high-standard multiplayer experience, along with a single player campaign, and a co-op campaign. You will play as a US Marine and visit locations such as Tehran, Paris and New York including claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes.
Jets will headline the vehicles with included sonic booms of course, and vehicles will range across land, sea and air as is expected. The ability to go prone will make a welcome return as well.
Also revealed, 64-multiplayer matches will make a return on the PC. The same is said for the consoles except the multiplayer will be toned down to 24 player matches.
New to the series, you will be able to pull players from the line of fire and use nearly any part of the terrain as a mount for your weapon. Explosions will be much more impressive this time around as they will actually knock your player down.
Driving the quality of the game will be the new Frostbite 2 engine that will deliver superior visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and incredibly lifelike character animations. Armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility, executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."
A description from the official website:
One moment you may be marching down a hilltop listening to the hypnotic sound of a firefight in the distance or admiring the way the light reflects off the smoke plumes of ground to air missiles rising from the city you’re about to engage. The next you’re on an urban street, surrounded, claustrophobic, fighting for your life and looking eight ways at once with all your senses on high alert, chilled at the knowledge that the building you’re hiding behind can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Welcome to Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in the Fall of 2011. Be prepared!
