One big happy family trying to kill each other

Momma's Little Boys(cont)

F.E.A.R. 3‘s producer, Ernest Zamora has stated that they have been trying to maintain what has made the franchise successful before. The horror elements that players know and love are still in place of course, but this time they are supposedly bigger and better. With the help of legendary horror director John Carpenter and critically acclaimed comic and scriptwriter Steve Niles, the F.E.A.R. team have ensured extreme terror and a truly horrifically gripping storyline are on the way. John Carpenter has provided the team with his expertise in crafting the in-game cinematics and was instrumental in some of the larger horror moments whilst Steve Niles co-wrote the game script with the development team. Zamora stated that “he (Niles) was really able to give great tips to amp up the story of the brothers and bring a lot of horror into it.”

Soul Reaver

Just like F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2, the third title will contain multiplayer, but the new features in the game were incorporated in order to expand this experience beyond anything it has reached before. There will be four modes of play that exploit these new gameplay elements, and they are "Fucking Run" "Contractions" "Soul Survivor" and "Soul King".

“Fucking Run” is a mode of multiplayer where you and three friends will run through levels killing enemies whilst escaping from Alma’s fast approaching “Wall of Death”. You will start in a safe room and proceed through each level killing enemies before the time runs out. If a player falls in battle another player can revive them, but if one of the players dies then the game is over. “Contradictions” is a survival mode where you must barricade yourself in and stock up on weapons and ammo. Endless waves of enemies will attack and you must survive in a similar way to Call of Duty’s ‘Nazi Zombies’. “Soul Survivor” is a one against three scenario where one player, the Spectre, will use the possession ability to possess enemies and try to kill the other three players and turn them into Spectres before the time runs out. “Soul King” is similar to Soul Survivor but all characters play as Spectres. You must possess enemies and kill the other players in order to collect their dropped souls.

Nightmares Never End

A recent trailer caused a lot of speculation as to whether Michael Becket and/or Jin will be making a return in F.E.A.R. 3. Michael Becket was the protagonist from F.E.A.R. 2 and if you remember correctly, Alma used him to get pregnant at the end of the game. Jin was one of the original members of the F.E.A.R. squad and Point Man’s team member. Without wanting to give away too many details Ernest Zamora said that Jin does return, as does Michael Becket. Becket supposedly has an interesting and important role to play in F.E.A.R. 3 and we can only try to imagine what could happen. Considering he is the father to Alma’s being he could turn out be a major antagonist in the game, but we can only wait and see.

When asked if this game will wrap up the F.E.A.R. licence, Zamora said he did not want to divulge any information apart from the fact that it was a very cool and interesting ending with a great reveal. Considering the question was not answered specifically we can only assume that there will be more F.E.A.R. games somewhere along the line. Finally, once you have finished the co-op campaign you can play through the game again as the character you did not choose the first time around. This way, the game will deliver two different campaigns for players to have a crack at. Luckily, it has been suggested that Fettel will get a single player campaign once the game is finished. Hopefully all the delays will be worth the wait when this game finally makes it to the stores.
