Secret Agent Clank
Clank has played second fiddle to Ratchet for quite a while and with Secret Agent Clank he gets his first shot at a starring role. The game offers some great gameplay and is insanely funny with more than enough reasons to play through it more than once. Secret Agent Clank takes the well worn formula of the Ratchet and Clank series, spruces it up a bit with some moderate stealth mechanics and delivers one of the best platformers to release on any system this year.
The Wipeout series has been one of the staples on Sony systems since the Playstation One days. Wipeout Pulse takes everything that fans loved about the series, high octane weapon based combat, and offers a deep and challenging career mode that pushes the PSP to its graphical limits. Coupled with online multiplayer, Wipeout Pulse is one of the best racing experiences to ever grace a handheld.
Patapon is an interesting game. It mixes real-time strategy and the music genre to create a unique gaming experience. Featuring a great art style, some fantastic level design and some addictive gameplay Patapon is one of the most interesting and affordable experiences of the year.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
While Square dominated the Nintendo DS this year they released arguably their most anticipated handheld game on the PSP with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Set as a prequel to the events of Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core brings fans back to one of its most famous settings. Typical of Square the game looks amazing, has great music and some fun, if somewhat random, gameplay. While it may not be the best handheld RPG to come out this year it is one of the best.
God of War: Chains of Olympus
The thing that is most notable about God of War: Chains of Olympus is that it controls, looks and feels like its brethren on the Playstation 2. Like those games, Chains of Olympus is en epic, gaming experience that is unrivaled by any other action game on the system to date. It is the best looking game on the system this year. It is the best playing game on the system this year. And overall it is hands down the best PSP game of the year.
