Blizzard has announced that the recently released
StarCraft II has sold 1.5 million units in the first two days it was available. 1 million of these sales were on the first day. This makes it the fastest selling strategy game of all time and also the best selling PC game this year.
“We launched StarCraft II in 11 different languages and on 5 different continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one,” said Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime.
“We’re pleased that so many people around the world have already picked up a copy of the game, and we look forward to welcoming even more players to Battle.net(R) in the weeks and months ahead.”
Last week, Wall Street Journal said that
Starcraft II cost $100 Million to make but it's now been revealed that they were talking about the wrong game. It turns out that the Wall Street Journal was talking about the upkeep of their other big game,
World of Warcraft and not
Starcraft II.
This has been corrected by a
retraction on their site. So, how much did
Starcraft II actually cost to make? Blizzard aren't saying but I would put money on them making a very nice profit when it's released July 27.
