The DSi will be getting a price cut in the UK and Japan starting on June 18. Nintendo has announced that the cost of the DSi to retrailers will be lowered, but not by how much. And they've said that "The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by the retailers." The Japanese price cut comes in a little more details, and with some bonuses. The DSi LL (Japan's name for the DSi XL in Europe and America) will be getting cut from ¥20,000 ($217) to ¥18,000 ($195). The original DSi will now sell for ¥15,000 ($163), which is down about 22% from ¥18,900 ($205).
Nintendo has announced a new handheld months before E3, though details are scarce. A full, proper reveal is to be made when E3 does come around. As of now, it will be called the Nintendo 3DS, but that could very well be a working title. The fact that Nintendo stresses that this new handheld will be fully backwards compatible with all Nintendo DS and DSi titles suggests that not only will it also feature two cameras (as the DSi does), but that it is also a new generation of handheld as opposed to another spin-off of DS.
The most interesting fact of them all, though, is that Nintendo said that the new hardware will release sometime in this fiscal year (April 2010 - March 2011). The fact that it will be fully revealed at E3 means we can chop the first six months of that time out of the picture. Though, that sets it up perfectly for a holiday release this year. No console maker would really release any other time.
