Play Create Share Just Got A Whole Lot Bigger
After a little delay by Media Molecule, which seemed like forever, I finally got my hands on LittleBigPlanet 2. The first game was a huge success, bringing a new type of gaming for everyone. It allowed you to play through a creative storyline filled with hidden goodies for your Sack person. You could create unique levels with the amazing tools they gave you, and play user-generated levels from all over the world. Now with LittleBigPlanet 2, Media Molecule takes that concept to a whole new world. When you thought it could not get any bigger, it just did.
Beware of the Negativitron
Ready for a new adventure? The world is being taken over by the Negativitron: an evil robot sucking the life out of everything. Your job is to defeat him and save Craftworld, but you aren’t alone. With the help of Larry Da Vinci and his secret organization called “The Alliance,” you are set with new gadgets and technology. Compared to the first game the storyline of LittleBigPlanet 2 is much more diverse. With a great variety of levels, Media Molecule really shows you that you can create anything if you really wanted to. You are not only avoiding obstacles and defeating enemies, but with levels where the camera angle changes, you’re suddenly playing a different game.
A new gadget to play with is the Grappling Hook which I found pretty fun to swing around objects and extend the length of it. Sometimes it can be tricky to try and reach for items that are high and require you to swing to grab it. The Grabinator is another one that allows you to hold and throw large objects. You can even grab another player and throw them somewhere. Now that was interesting playing with other players and throwing each other on spikes or getting squashed. The Creatinator is this little hat placed on your Sack person. By pressing R1, you can shoot stuff from the hat. During the story mode, you shoot water to put out flames, but in create mode, you get to emit whatever you want. The tutorial makes you shoot cows which I found pretty amusing.
Oh, the Possibilities
Building a level was always a huge part of LittleBigPlanet because with so many tools, you can create pretty much whatever you feel like making. There are a lot of tutorials to make it easier to find what you are looking for in the game. I sat through all 52 of them to get the trophy “Teacher’s Pet”, but it was worth it. I learned how to use all the new awesome tools, though it’s hard to remember what they all do. Just like the first game, making levels was never supposed to be easy. Not everyone can make amazing levels because you need the time, patience, and creativity. Sometimes you can get really frustrated when things don’t work the way you want them to.
