The Timeless Value of Retro Games

The Timeless Value of Retro Games
Retro games, or "oldies" as many people call them, have always been popular, but lately, they have started gaining a lot more popularity. Be it the charm of the multiple pixels, the nostalgia of the way gaming used to be, or the different user experience they offer in comparison to modern games, retro titles are making a comeback. If you have never played an oldie, then it is worth going to the gaming library of your gaming system and buying a couple of "platinum" branded titles. Many of these games come at pretty reasonable prices, and satisfaction from the gameplay experience is more or less guaranteed.
Can Today’s Gamers Really Enjoy a Retro Game?
It is true that today's gaming society has adjusted to gaming products that are a lot more interactive and a lot more fast-paced. Most retro titles cannot offer players the real-time interaction with teammates in games like League of Legends or the real-time card battles that players experience when they play baccarat against a live dealer. They can, on the other hand, entertain players for multiple hours. A title many retro-game enthusiasts play over and over again is the original Final Fantasy 7; the game that internationalized JRPGs. More than 25 years after its original release, Final Fantasy 7 is still being played in multiple gaming environments by gamers of all ages. Square Enix's prized gem is still selling multiple copies all over the world, even though its technology is more than just outdated.
Are Retro Games Popular Because They Are Easy?
Retro games are a lot simpler than 9th generation games, but being simpler and older does not mean that they are always easy to beat. Beating some retro games will require using a strategy or two. After all, gaming has always been about offering satisfaction by completing a mission, or by achieving a goal and this does not change because a game was made during the eighties or the nineties. One thing that has changed is the gameplay speed, as modern gaming is a lot faster than the gaming people experienced twenty or thirty years ago. Because of that, gaming studios are releasing remasters, which allow the player to adjust the gameplay speed. For example, Square's remastered games come with a setting that can make the game three times faster, and this means that you can enjoy games like Final Fantasy 7 at speeds that feel similar to the gameplay speeds of newer games.

Why Play the Original when there is a Remake?
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a great game, and there is no doubt about that. All the 9th generation elements that have been added to the gameplay and all the DLCs, which give players the ability to explore more aspects of the original story, have made the Remake a must-have title for every gamer. However, there are a few things, which players can only get by playing the original version of Final Fantasy 7. The most important thing among them is the traditional JPRG gameplay experience. The Remake is still an RPG, but playing it will feel more like an action-adventure game rather than like a JPRG.
One thing the original cannot offer is specific innovations that come with next-gen gaming. One of them is VR gaming. Even though it would have been great if one could play the retro game using VR equipment, it is almost impossible to combine the two gaming technologies. It is however possible to combine VR technology with 8th of 9th gen gaming and this has given developers the opportunity to create a Final Fantasy mod, which enables a VR FF7 Remake gaming experience.
