Silent Hill film Echoes facing delays
Echoes delayed
Anticipation levels had been soaring ahead of the release of the third Silent Hill film Echoes and it was due to come out at the end of November 2020. However, things have been put on hold due to delayed reshoots.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hurt the film industry and plenty of new releases have been pushed back due to the devastating effect caused by the virus across the world.
When will Echoes be released?
When it was announced at the beginning of 2020 that Silent Hill movie director Christophe Gans would be announcing the release of two video game-themed films, there was so much hype and anticipation levels reached fever pitch.
But as far as the third part of the Silent Hills trilogy is concerned, it has had to take a back seat. However, Echoes will be postponed until 2021, although as of yet, no release date has been confirmed.
Role for Charlize Theron
To digress away from the third film for just a minute, there is exciting news that has emerged over the TV version of the film franchise. There has been talk that Netflix is trying to muscle its way in on the action and Silent Hill want Charlize Theron to be given a starring role.
However, it has not been confirmed whether Theron has been contacted or formally offered a role in the TV show. As you can imagine, plot details and the like are very much top secret, but if there are rumours of Silent Hill going after Theron, that can only be a good thing. And if she does sign, Silent Hill will no doubt pick up a few new fans along the way too.
What we love most about Silent Hill
Although it may still be a while before we see the latest instalment of Silent Hill at the cinema, it has still provided many memories. From its creepy designs to its cultural impact it has had on the video game scene, Silent Hill will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Despite some movies getting a bad reputation for being based on a video game, Silent Hill doesn't necessarily fall into this category and it sits in the top 10 of highest-grossing video game movies of all time. The fan art that appeared on some of the games is something that doesn't fail to impress either.
Made for the fans
Arguably, Echoes is a film that was made by the fans and for the fans. And it feels like there is a real fan influence in the thinking behind the film. There is a real edge to it and last month there was an official trailer for Echoes that went out on YouTube.
Producer and cinematographer Codey Dingfield, who was the brainchild behind the concept for the third Silent Hill film, explained how he came up with the idea.
He said: "Silent Hill 2 inspired me to get into horror. I remember staying up late at night, all alone with my PS2, walking around the apartment and being scared at all times!
"The atmosphere. The audio designs. The soundtrack. The creature design... all of it is timeless and beautiful."
Meanwhile, composer Peter Wicher has been a huge fan of Silent Hill since the game first came out in 1999 and he has created the score for the movie.
He said: "The subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills was actually what drove me to start writing for video games, so I began searching the internet for projects that were in their early stages that I felt had the potential to be truly frightening."
