Star Citizen gathers over $6 million from crowdsourcing

The creator of the classic Wing Commander, Chris Roberts, has broken the record for crowdsourcing in games by gathering over $6 million dollars from fans eager to step into a cockpit and have a grand adventure in the upcoming title Star Citizen.

The funding period ended yesterday and the original goal to make the game reality was $2,000,000. But the team behind the new game managed to up the excitement for their title with a very successful campaign and daily newsletters and the final figure on the screen at the end of the campaign was a whopping $6,238,563.

The project reached several stretch goals, most of which were aimed to further develop the game world by increasing the number of star systems and ships that the gamers could discover and play with. The developers also promised to include celebrity voice actors and a full orchestral soundtrack to the deal during the final big stretch goals.

The ambitious space simulator is expected to come out by the end of 2014. Given the support of the community, the developers must feel the weight of the world on their shoulders right now as they prepare to fulfill all their promises.
