Metacritic: "No plans" to bring back career scores
It looks like career scores for individual game developers are gone for good on Metacritic.
In an exclusive interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Metacritic co-founder and games editor Marc Doyle cites lack of information as a main reason for doing away with the scores and says the gaming industry does a poor job of crediting staff for the projects they work on.
I think that is an issue, of the industry not needing or not wanting to put that information out there. I don't know exactly what's behind that, I haven't discussed that with too many publishers.
Career scores have been the subject of much criticism from the industry since launching last week. Outspoken devs like David Jaffe and Cliff Bleszinski say the database left out titles they've worked on, or incorrectly credited them for work that wasn't theirs.
Doyle says that Metacritic is willing to work with publishers and developers on the career score database, though he believes the industry doesn't see it as a priority.
