Dark Souls II to get an enhanced re-release
Dark Souls II will be getting a re-release, with the eyebrow-raising subtitle of Scholar of the First Sin, which sounds more like a title for an erotic novella to me.
With a projected release date of the 7th of April 2015, the new version will include all of the DLC content as standard, plus an increased multiplayer cap of 6 players, and the vague-sounding 'additional upgrades' to graphics, sound, and performance.
There will also be the following improvements, also available to owners of the original release via a patch:
- Additional NPCs added for an enhanced story experience.
- Parameter adjustments for improved game balance.
- Augmented item descriptions.
- Improved online matchmaking functionality.
I'm not a great fan of this recent trend for re-releases. It seems an awful lot like money for old rope - game developers taking the path of least resistance towards some extra money by slapping some fancier shaders on an old game and calling it 'enhanced.'
I am, however, a fan of Dark Souls, so I'll patiently wait to be proved wrong.
