Star Wars: Attack Squadrons gets canned
Sorry, fans of X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Rogue Squadron - looks like you won't be getting a new Star Wars combat flight sim any time soon. Disney has just cancelled development of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, a free-to-play game they announced late last year which promised a welcome return to the cockpit.
We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons.
After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences.
We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.

Reports from some players of the closed beta indicate it was a strictly browser-based affair, and wasn't running all that well to begin with, so perhaps it was for the best.
On the bright side, it certainly looks like the space combat flight sim genre is set for a roaring come-back, buoyed by the forthcoming release of the Oculus Rift. There's plenty to look forward to, with Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Eve: Valkyrie, Strike Vector, and more all in active development.
On the other hand, none of them are Star Wars...
