Epic announce Unreal Tournament 2014
Epic has just gone and done something truly deserving of their moniker by announcing Unreal Tournament 2014 as a thing that is definitely happening.
The first game in the venerated series for nearly seven years, Epic took to a livestream to say that the new game is on its way, and:
[Unreal Tournament 2014] will be true to its roots as a competitive FPS.
The game will be developed in the kind of open, community-driven way that has done well for recent games like ArmA 3, and long-time series fans like myself will no doubt be feeling very excited at the prospect of watching the pieces come together.
In an unsurprising turn of events, they've also said that the game will be completely free... But wait! Before you throw your PC out of the window; they've been keen to make it clear that it will not simply be 'free-to-play', and there'll be no microtransactions. Rather, Epic will be hoping to make their money by taking a cut of user-generated content via an in-game marketplace.
We'll see how that all pans out once the game is released, but this is only the very beginning of the road for the UT'14 development cycle. For now, you can head over to the official forums to get involved in the new development and modding community from the get-go.
