'RIFT' free-to-play model gets a launch date
Trion Worlds have announced that their popular MMO RIFT will soon have a hybrid free-to-play model.
The developer stated that as a free player you will have access to the whole RIFT world; every dungeon, every zone, and every level as well as receiving access to all future updates.
We have been listening to feedback from our players and watching the continuously developing MMO community, and are now ready to launch RIFT as a premium free-to-play experience, said Bill Fisher, creative director. After taking our time and planning a careful transition; we are very excited to bring an enhanced game experience to everyone, without barriers.
However, if you want to experience everything that RIFT has to offer you'll be able to join the subscription service for what Trion is calling "Patron" benefits. If you happened to be an existing paying customer you're loyalty will not be forgotten and will be rewarded. The free-to-play update will launch on June 12 and will consist of update 2.3, or "Empyreal Assault".
