'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' announced by former People Can Fly devs
The Astronauts, the developing studio comprised of former People Can Fly staffers, have announced The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
It is said that the game is inspired by “weird fiction stories and other tales of macabre of the early 20th century,” The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to “evolve immersive storytelling in games.”
You'll play as a detective with supernatural abilities to visualize the crime scenes you are investigating. The story will focus on the kidnapping of a small boy that will take you to a mountainous location where you'll uncover details about the deed.
“What we care about the most is that the players feel like they’re really there. Immersion is our number one priority,” said the game’s designer, Adrian Chmielarz. “It’s a game about exploration and discovery. We’re not abandoning the gameplay – on the contrary: we’re trying to strip it down to the bone and make sure it’s always meaningful and truly makes the experience better.”
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will utilize the Unreal Engine 3 game engine. The game will be out at some point in 2013.
