S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Canceled, GSC Closing
According to various sources S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC is closing down and that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been canceled.
A Ukrainian website UkraNews is citing that GSC owner Sergei Grigorovich is closing down his studio. Grigorovich apparently stated that he is closing down the developing firm due to personal reasons but did confirm that the 40-50 employees would be given wages they are owed up to February 2012.
Different sources seem to think that Grigorovich is closing the firm because he is displeased with the development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. While that would be preposterous in itself, it would make little sense depending on the money Grigorovich had sunk into the project.
GSC's official Twitter account posted this earlier today, “No we have not closed GSC or cancelled #stalker2″ but then the tweet was deleted with GSC's Dimitri Bourkovski stating, "No PR. GSC closed".
1C Ukraine’s Sergey Galenkin confirmed on his personal blog that GSC was indeed to be closed. Galenkin confirmed that cost of developing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was a determining factor but not the sole factor. He also stated that the developer's failed attempts to find a publisher to bring the game to consoles was also too big of hurdle.
