The Way aims to recapture the magic of Out of this World
If you're a fan of such sidescrolling puzzle-platformers as Heart of Darkness, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and of course Out of This World (known as Another World in Europe, and Outer World in Japan), then prepare to get stoked.
Developer PlayWay has put an exciting new project onto Kickstarter. Titled The Way, it hopes to capture the magic of the games listed above.
Here's a trailer:
The art manages to be very retro and very beautiful at the same time, dripping with atmosphere. Player will also be able to make use of powers such as teleportation, laser guns, telekinesis, and a pet beast.
PlayWay also promises that the game will have a deeply emotional story, with a main character who ages over the course of the game. They had this to say about the plot:
Without giving too much away, The Way tells a story about a member of space explorers team, who lost his beloved one and cannot accept her death. Finding ancient writtings on eternal existence during one of his last expeditions makes him come back there in search of the meaning of life itself.
With 28 days to go, The Way already has almost half of its intended funding, making $7,206 (Canadian) with a goal of $15,000 goal. At the current rate, it's a safe bet that the game will find the funding it needs. I, for one, am rooting for it.
