Need an excuse to change your pants? Watch this twisted new trailer for The Evil Within!

Bethesda Softworks has released a new trailer for The Evil Within, their upcoming survival horror title. The trailer, which debuted at PAX East, showcases some new characters and monsters, including the fearsome Boxman. It's also quite gruesome, featuring (among other things) a guillotine, faces covered in barbed wire, and a The Shining-esq blood-flooded hallway.

The game is being developed by Tango Gameworks and directed by Shinji Mikami (the creator of Resident Evil). It looks to mix the best elements of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and even a bit of Clock Tower/Haunting Ground (there's a fair bit of running and hiding involved).

Bethesda summarizes the plot thusly:

Detective Sebastien Castellanos and his partners are called in to investigate a gruesome mass murder. After witnessing a mysterious force slaughter his fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When the video opens, he finds his world has been turned upside down. Fighting for survival in a world where hideous creatures wander among the dead, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel who or what is behind this unimaginable evil.

The Evil Within will be released on August 26, 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
