Wolfenstein gets trailer & release date; pre-orders grant access to Doom beta
Earlier today, Bethesda revealed that Wolfenstein: The New Order will be launching on May 20 in North America, and on May 23 in Europe. The game will be available for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
The more exciting news is this: pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order will grant you access to the next Doom game's beta. (It hasn't been confirmed yet, but all signs point to Doom 4.) You can find out more about that on the web site's FAQ page.
The web site notes: “Although you’ll receive the DOOM beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the DOOM beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the DOOM beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.”
Bethesda also released a new trailer for the game. Titled "Boom Boom," it gives us a look at the game's characters:
Wolfenstein: The New Order takes place in an alternate history setting where the Nazis won World War II and have, as a result, filled the world with strange contraptions and goose stepping. The game is being developed by MachineGames.
1992's Wolfenstein 3D more or less invented the First-Person Shooter genre, so the series has quite a legacy. Can The New Order live up to it? We'll find out in May.
