Director of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon working on 'dream project'
Ubisoft has given Dean Evans, director of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the okay to recruit two colleagues and go crazy making a new project.
He discussed this in an interview with Polygon, saying, "This is the dream project. It's the one all of us have always wanted to make and it seems like they're gonna let us do it."
"I am very, very happy. These are two guys I’ve wanted to work with for a very long time. And because of how Blood Dragon went down, I’ve got the trust from the guys upstairs [Ubisoft] to go and build a compelling and unique universe."
One of the two men in question is Ubisoft's Darren Bartley (check out his DeviantArt here). The other is a currently unnamed industry veteran.
Details about the new project are scarce, though the interview does discuss two of his previous pitches, both of which were considered too offensive to be made. Evans seems passionate about creating entirely new ideas instead of the same game over and over again. “I want to make shit that’s fucking nuts, things that a company and studio like this would put out. What drives me on is knowing that we are in an industry that’s in its infancy, and we can do whatever the fuck we want, we have no limits to whatever we want to create. We have to pick our battles, obviously, but we can make whatever the fuck we want.”
Evans added: “I really, really believe in Ubisoft and the way that Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO] and everyone instill their trust into us as teams to deliver. I know that those guys want to innovate, they want to really push this industry forward, and certainly, that’s all I ever want to do — is make the games I want to make."
Blood Dragon, a standalone expansion/spinoff to Fary Cry 3, was released last year to what might best be described as surprised acclaim. It also contains one of the most hilarious sex scenes in video game history.
Here's hoping Evans' next project will have the same sense of crazy fun.
