Total War: Rome II - Caesar in Gaul Expansion launches December 12

Today, Sega and The Creative Assembly announced that Total War: Rome II will be getting its first campaign expansion on December 12, 2013.

Titled Caesar in Gaul, the expansion will focus on Julius Caesar during his campaign in Gaul, including the Battle of Alesia. Sega has stated that it is inspired by Caesar's own Commentarii de bello Gallico (Commentaries on the Gallic war).

The expansion will include four factions: Rome, the Gallic Arverni, the Germanic Suebi, and the Belgic Nervii. The expansion will feature new units, as well as a new campaign map, expanding the map of Gaul and southern Britannia. This will include 18 provinces to conquer, complete with new environmental effects.

Interestingly, Caesar in Gaul has a shorter campaign timespan (58-51BC), meaning each in-game year will be split into 24 turns. The seasons will have an impact on the gameplay as well.

Said Creative Director Mike Simpson: "We've released a number of DLC packs and free content updates for ROME II, but this is our most substantial so far. We've always planned to focus more closely on some of the key conflicts of the ancient world, and Caesar’s war in Gaul is the ideal place to start. We've also improved the game considerably since launch, and that process continues as we move onto substantial feature and gameplay improvements."

Caesar in Gaul will be available for download on December 12, 2013 for $14.99/£9.99/€14.99.
