The Forest Enters Early Access Today

When The Forest was first revealed, viewers were treated to beautiful scenery, a serene forest and beautiful coastline. Taking part in such tasks as fishing, building a shelter... lining up body parts to ward off the terrors of nightfall? Yes, The Forest is not all sweet times in paradise, as players find themselves up against cannibalistic and mutated denizens that favor the night to strike out for the victims.

Even though The Forest is only entering Steam's Early Access today, what will be included from the start sounds interesting;

Key alpha features
Enter a living, breathing world, where every tree and plant can be chopped down. Below ground explore a vast network of caves and underground lakes.

Chop down trees to build a camp, or start a fire to keep warm.

Scavenge food to keep yourself from starving.

Build a small shelter or a large ocean side fortress.

Lay traps and defences to keep a safe perimeter.

Explore and build during the day. Defend your base at night. Craft weapons and tools. Bunker down during the evening or bring the fight directly to the enemy.

Defend yourself against a clan of genetic mutant enemies that have beliefs, families, morals and that appear almost human.

Use stealth to evade enemies, or engage them directly with crude weapons built from sticks and stones.

With much more listed in the development roadmap for the coming months. Will The Forest carve out a memorable place in survival games? Or will it fade like so many others? Time will tell.

The Forest will release at a price of $14.99.
