MMO Defiance To Go Free To Play
Defiance, the MMO-Shooter from Trion Worlds, will find itself switching to the Free To Play formula, which will allow newcoming players to access the game without buying it at all. They have not given the specifics yet, but it is safe to assume that anything not tied into the core game itself will still have a fee individually, or accessible via the Season Pass.
Defiance is not an MMO that has ever had a subscription, but the core game itself you did have to buy into in a similar fashion to the highly popular Guild Wars 2, and the core has been available for only $10 for several months now. So why the sudden change? Producer Trick Dempsey stated the following to A List Daily;
"We’ve known this transition was coming for a long time, and we’ve been changing the game drastically to address these issues prior to launch. Defiance was never a subscription game, so many of the issues endemic to free to play transitions were simply not an issue for us."
So there you have it, while it has met some criticism from those who have recently bought the title, it would appear that dropping the price tag completely will be the fighting chance Defiance needs to make a place for itself in the long run. The title will officially go Free To Play on June 4, 2014
