Analyst Says PC Gaming Now Brings In More Revenue Than Console Gaming
In a recent interview with PCR, David Cole of DFC Intelligence revealed that according to his findings the tables have turned in the gaming industry as to where the bulk of the money lies. A few short years ago, it was unarguably resting with the console gaming market, however, the tide has definitely turned. Many would argue that his findings are late, however, what they do show is a reaffirmation that with the strides in the PC gaming world in the last couple years is that now PC gaming leads in more than just quality of the products presented for PC's.
“Among core gamers there is a heavy overlap with most console gamers also playing on a PC. The big difference is that consoles are now the luxury item and PCs are the necessity. Just a few years ago the reverse was true. This means PCs have the broader audience.”
That quote is one that rings true as PC gamers can give themselves a bit of a victory lap once again. He attributes a huge boost in the revenue to MOBA titles such as the ever popular League of Legends as well as DotA2 but they cannot take all the glory, especially not with the convenience of Steam giving gamers access to daily sales, weekly deals, and annual price blowouts and to a lesser extent other services like Origin doing similar things to entice people to spend their money.
