Electronic Arts Wants Proper Recognition for Video Game Composers
As far as Grammy awards are concerned, video game compositions have been relegated to the “Best Score for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media” category. With a little push from Electronic Arts, though, video game compositions may finally be recognized on their own.
As a recent article stated,
Electronic Arts is lobbying The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) to introduce a “Best Video Game Score” category...
This would give the awards their very own category made solely for video game music. With many video game soundtracks being given as much musical attention today as Hollywood's high dollar blockbusters, this seems to make perfect sense. In fact, many compositions from today's video game soundtracks were written by composers who have done work for Hollywood as well.
Will video game composers finally be given the credit they deserve? We may have to tune in to the Grammys on February 13 to see.
